See the title above? If I wanted to rank for the SEO keyword, the title was “What is SEO?” or “SEO explained”. You will understand this only if you have a basic knowledge on SEO so, if it’s not the case, just keep it in mind for a later time. Anyway, if you don’t know by this time, find here what is SEO.
Now, about you : are you a newbie in SEO? Just started your own blog or website and want it to be on the first page in Google? You’re right! This is the idea. If we don’t dream big, we barely wake up in the morning.
Or, maybe you spent some time now on research on how to rank in Google or other search engines. It seemed somehow simple in the beginning, just some small tricks and you felt like a little expert. Big expectations, low outcome. If this is you, I guarantee you’ll find yourself in this article.

SEO – do it by yourself?
What a big question in the title! This article is, in fact, about my own experience in SEO. I hope my story is relevant for you to decide what’s to be done.
Can you learn SEO? Can you manage all the tasks? Is this a simple annex to your work?
Too many questions in this post, huh? I bet you have a lot more! At least in my case, I started with questions like these. Can I fix by my own everything at home? Yes, I can become an expert in vacuum cleaners, washing machines or PC hardware. It just takes time, learning and experience. I confirm, this is the case for SEO also. Nothing but learning, time and experience.
It seemed too expensive to hire an expert. And I thought it is so simple as small tasks you do often, as cleaning email inbox of spam or defragmenting the hard drive (now HDD is history, I know). So, I decided to do my own SEO for the small business that I owned at that time. And did it for the next business of mine, for some other friends’ businesses, again for me and so on. Then I realized that SEO is something I am good at. But it was taking me more and more work and learning time. In the end, SEO started to be my job, my business.
Well, I’m a talker, so I can tell you the whole story of my life. In short – do you think to do your SEO by yourself? “Is it worth?” – that’s your question? Do you want the shortest answer? Here it is:
My Advice: Do your SEO by yourself only if you want to become a professional on SEO.
SEO takes time
How much time you need? It depends. How good do you want to be? You see yourself as a skilled SEO professional? Then you need to think this as a full college and a full time job.
You need to know more than SEO
Yes, you need to understand a lot of connected things. SEO is not only about titles or pictures or links. You need to know a little html, you should understand what is “behind the curtain”. Right click on any website and select “Page source”. This is how a page looks in reality. No, you don’t have to be a programmer, leave this to others. Still, you have to be familiar with all the terms and principles.
SEO is an ongoing job
If you manage to learn all you need and become an expert in SEO, you can now apply everything on your website (also off your website, for good results). You will find your website in the first results page on Google, Bing or other search engines. “Everything is done”, you would say. “I can now focus on my business.” Well, this is true for a short time. Everything changes fast. If you don’t keep up with the new techniques and algorithms, you will lose most of what you built.
